Dental Veneers

Woman smiling with perfect teethDental veneers are restorations used to cover the front sides of your teeth. Our team at Hearon Family Dentistry builds veneers that are customized to fit your teeth precisely. After attaching veneers, your teeth will look straighter, larger, and brighter. We use veneers as a solution for chipped, broken, discolored, or cracked teeth. We also use them to fill gaps and even out arches of teeth that appear different in size.

Benefits of Veneers

Veneers are very thin, but strong, and hardly anyone can notice you have them. To add to that, they are comfortable in your mouth. With proper care, these restorations can stay in good shape for many years. We do not fit veneers for just cosmetic reasons, they can also improve biting. When you have dental veneers, they can help avoid muscle pain, nerve disorders, and other issues arising from improper chewing. You can also eat whatever you want with these restorations.

Getting veneers cemented onto your teeth is a painless process and replacing them is simple. They do not cause gum inflammation and do not irritate the inner tissues of your mouth. When you have them, you can brush as well as eat as you do with your regular teeth. Additionally, they do not impede speaking at all and they can help crooked teeth appear symmetrical. Veneers also resist stains.

Veneers Installation Procedure

Our dentist will prepare the teeth that are receiving the veneers. This will be done by removing some enamel from the teeth. The dentist makes impressions of the teeth to help construct the veneers. You may receive temporary restorations to offer protection to the shaved-down teeth.

On your next visit to our office, we will have your veneers ready. The dentist will remove the temporary restorations and fit the final ones on the teeth. We will check to make sure they look and fit properly. Any adjustments needed are conducted at this point. The dentist then cleans and polishes the teeth. An acidic substance is applied to the teeth to make the enamel rougher so that it becomes more receptive to the restoration. Using special cement, our dentist will attach the veneers and shine a special light onto the teeth to harden the material quickly. We will clean any excess cement and check to see that everything is okay.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

Veneers can last a lifetime since they are made of strong durable material. They resist staining and chipping. Your job is to carefully keep the veneers in good shape. Keep up with your day-to-day brushing and flossing routine and see our dentist at least two times a year. If you get veneers, it is also a good time to break habits like biting pencils and nails. Chewing on hard objects tends to damage veneers, as it does to your regular teeth. Avoid this habit because it almost takes the same force to damage or break a veneer as it would do a regular tooth.
